Today, we remember those nearly 3000 who died 14 years ago in the 9/11 jihadi attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon—and the failed attack on the White House or the Capitol, thanks to the efforts of those passengers who took United Flight 93 down in Pennsylvania. We are still concerned about additional jihadi attacks on our homeland—and that our leaders are not doing all they can to protect us and our security interests around the world.
Many of us are particularly concerned that the unverifiable nuclear Deal with Iran, to which the Obama administration has agreed, makes America and Israel much more vulnerable–and greatly empowers the world’s greatest funding source for terrorism. (See in particular my last two email messages on our webpage www.highfrontier.org.) Most Americans and their senators and representatives oppose this Deal. But congress frittered away its ability to refuse to ratify the Deal as a treaty, requiring the consent of 2/3 of the Senators. Now under the Corker-Cardin legislation, only 34 Senators can impose their will on the majority—as discussed in Tuesday’s message.
Given the terms of the “Corker-Cardin legislation,” the votes of that minority (actually 42 Democrat senators have indicated they support the President’s Deal) will begin releasing over a $100 billion to Iran’s Grand Ayatollah and his mullahs—who welcomed the Deal with cheers and chants of “Death to America.” And Iran’s leaders have declared that they want no more to do with America. That much money in the hands of the jihadi leaders of world’s preeminent terrorist state bodes ill for America and America’s allies and interests around the world.
Into the midst of this hopeless situation, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) has made a most timely recommendation to counteract this terrible situation, in a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Speaker of the House John Boehner. (Click here for the full letter.) Ironically, this recommendation employs to-date ignored terms of the Corker-Cardin legislation that should lead it to be declared moot because the President and his administration have not lived up to its explicit, clear terms that dictated that a 60-day examination of the proposed Deal would begin five days after the Deal was consummated and its terms and all side deals are provided to the Congress for its deliberations. This has not happened even though the Deal was consummated on July 14, 2015—and the specifics of several side deals have not been provided to Capitol Hill.
According to Andy McCarthy (the originator of this idea, as I reported on Tuesday) not only are there side deals between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)–including one that permits Iran to inspect itself, but also several involving parties other than the United States (e.g., Britain, France, Germany and China)—side deals to which the U.S. congress has not been privy. This condition violates the explicit terms of the Corker-Cardin legislation, which President Obama signed into law. And this violation rules out the removal of the sanctions—for which Iran is panting.
Speaker of the House Boehner has taken up the charge, as noted in his press release yesterday, emphasizes that the fight is just beginning! Hear, hear!!! Click here. Regrettably, as shown here, Senate Majority Leader McConnell seems reluctant to continue the fight.
So, now the administration, Hill Democrats, even some Republicans and the liberal media are in a dither. Good! Cruise on Cruz!!!! This fight may be for all the marbles.
