“China is pursuing a broad and robust array of counterspace capabilities, which includes direct-ascent anti-satellite missiles, co-orbital anti-satellite systems, computer network operations, ground-based satellite jammers and directed energy weapons.” ~ Bill Gertz, quoting from a new report by the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission, to be published next month

“. . . Years ago, before the East Germans began rebuilding their churches, they erected a secular structure: the television tower at Alexander Platz. Virtually ever since, the authorities have been working to correct what they view as the tower’s one major flaw, treating the glass sphere at the top with paints and chemicals of every kind. Yet even today when the sun strikes that sphere–that sphere that towers over all Berlin—the light makes the sign of the cross. There in Berlin, like the city itself, symbols of love, symbols of worship, cannot be suppressed. . .” ~ President Ronald Reagan at the Brandenburg Gate, June 12, 1987

On the 24th anniversary of Tiananmen Square and the eve of President Obama’s meeting with China’s President Xi Jiaping, it is important that the “powers that be” realize that military-to-military exchanges with China are no substitute for underwriting a needed “Peace through Strength” policy in Northeast Asia with serious defense programs second to none.
Last Friday, North Korea threatened to attack the U.S. and its military bases in South Korea and the Pacific—after two U.S. nuclear-capable stealth bombers dropped dummy munitions in joint military drills with South Korea—in response to earlier North Korean testing and threats of a preemptive attack on the U.S. Stay tuned to this “tit for tat” game.
