November 3, 2015—Protecting the Grid: Good News, Bad News . . .

“The Secretary of Defense at the time, Leon Panetta, called the threat of a cyber-attack on the power grid potentially a cyber-Pearl Harbor. That’s pretty huge, and nobody was paying any attention to it. And so I wondered: A) Are these people just exaggerating for reasons I don’t quite understand, and B) If they’re not, what is the government doing to prepare for it and to prepare the public for it? And my instinct told me that the answer was going to be not much. Not much is an exaggeration. Nothing is closer to the truth.” ~ Ted Koppel on the PBS Newshour, October 27, 2015, discussing his new book, “Lights Out: A Cyber Attack, A Nation Unprepared, Surviving the Aftermath.” Read Full Story

October 13, 2015—Quick Fixes, Anyone?

“I agree with the intel community that we assess that they [the North Koreans] have the ability, they have the weapons, and they have the ability to miniaturize those weapons, and they have the ability to put them on a rocket that can range the [U.S.] homeland.” ~ Adm. William Gortney, Northcom Commander, responsible for defending the United States from long-range missile attack.

October 6, 2015—No Time To Waste!

The Obama administration seems delusional about the threats we face and clueless about how to counter them. Others must fill the gaps, and 2016 should be a national-security election. Hopefully, we will elect a president and congress who understand the urgent strategic perils America faces—worldwide, and especially in the Middle East. We quite literally have no time to waste. September 29, 2015—Russia and Middle East Madness!

“But I don’t want to go among the mad people,” Alice remarked. “Oh, you can’t help that,” said the [Cheshire] cat, “We’re all mad here. I’m Mad, you’re mad.” “How do you know I’m mad?” said Alice. “You must be,” said the cat, “or else you wouldn’t have come here.” ~ Lewis Carol, Alice in Wonderland. Read Full Story

August 18, 2015—Daunting Dog Days . . .

September 11, 1683 was when Muslim armies were turned back from Vienna. Maybe September 11 has meaning for the jihadi terrorists. A September 11, 2012 jihadi attack on our Benghazi consulate killed the U.S. Ambassador to Libya and three other Americans—after the Ambassador’s requests for additional security went unanswered. And we are still wondering what happened as the FBI will be investigating the messages on then Secretary of State Hilary Clinton’s email server, as we approach another September 11. Stay tuned! June 30, 2015—ISIS Going Global?

June 30, 2015—ISIS Going Global?

Within a three hours period last Friday, jihadis killed about 60 persons and wounded several hundred others in three nation states. Friday’s attacks in France, Tunisia and Kuwait came days after the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group called for such operations during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan (June 17-July 17). Was this “Bloody Friday” an introduction to more such terrorism during the next several weeks? Within what geographic limits? Within the United States? Something to consider for this Fourth of July? June 18, 2015—Volatile New World Disorder!

“. . . Years ago, before the East Germans began rebuilding their churches, they erected a secular structure: the television tower at Alexander Platz. Virtually ever since, the authorities have been working to correct what they view as the tower’s one major flaw, treating the glass sphere at the top with paints and chemicals of every kind. Yet even today when the sun strikes that sphere–that sphere that towers over all Berlin—the light makes the sign of the cross. There in Berlin, like the city itself, symbols of love, symbols of worship, cannot be suppressed. . .” ~ President Ronald Reagan at the Brandenburg Gate, June 12, 1987 Read Full Story

June 2, 2015—Sunni, Shia and More Tangled Web!

“Having been created by Islamic supremacism, AQI/ISIS was nurtured by Iran. Notwithstanding the internecine bloodletting that now pits Sunnis against Shiites across the region, Shiite Iran has been the key supporter of both Shiite and Sunni jihadist groups since its revolutionary incarnation as “the Islamic Republic” in 1979. It has backed Sunni al-Qaeda and Hamas, as well as Shiite Hezbollah and a network of Shiite terror cells in Iraq. Its only requirement has been that jihadists of whatever stripe advance Iran’s interests by taking the fight to the U.S. and Israel.” ~ Andrew McCarthy in “Rand Paul has a point about Republicans and ISIS,” National Review, May 30, 2015 Read Full Story
