Our two New Year’s resolutions for 2019 are: 1) To complete our Lake Wylie Pilot Study and begin exporting its lessons for protecting the electric grid throughout South and North Carolina and report our progress to the rest of the nation; and 2) To press for a Brilliant Pebbles space based interceptor system to be included in President Trump’s Space Force.
The Washington “powers that be” will be politically divided in a feud between a Democrat controlled House and a Republican controlled Senate. But President Donald Trump, as Commander in Chief under the Constitution, can and should direct major progress in these two areas — hopefully with, but not entirely dependent on, a supportive congress. And we should get a clear indication of his potential support very early in 2019.
A Presidential Executive Order, anticipated in January, will direct more integrated and competently executed plans and programs to counter the existing existential electromagnetic pulse (EMP) threat to the survival of all Americans. Our Lake Wylie Pilot Study can and hopefully will serve as a model for others to address the EMP threat from the “bottom up.” Thus, our efforts can benefit the over 3000 public utility and cooperative electric companies that distribute electricity to many if not most Americans.
Second, Vice President Pence is chairing the Space Council that among other things is orchestrating the federal government’s bureaucratic efforts to respond to President Trump’s directive to make serious plans for a future Space Force, the Pentagon’s sixth military service. And Deputy Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan, who has been leading the Pentagon’s response, will become Acting Secretary of Defense at midnight, replacing retiring Secretary James Mattis who originally opposed the President’s initiative. Since Secretary Shanahan is known to support the President’s vision, this change can’t hurt High Frontier’s efforts.
