June 30, 2015—ISIS Going Global?

Within a three hours period last Friday, jihadis killed about 60 persons and wounded several hundred others in three nation states. Friday’s attacks in France, Tunisia and Kuwait came days after the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group called for such operations during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan (June 17-July 17). Was this “Bloody Friday” an introduction to more such terrorism during the next several weeks? Within what geographic limits? Within the United States? Something to consider for this Fourth of July? June 9, 2015—Help from the Old Crows!

The name “Old Crows” emerged from the first large-scale use of Electronic Warfare (EW) during the WWII Battle of Britain and the US and allied bombing raids over Europe. The Allied Radar Countermeasure operators used the code name “Ravens” and employed receivers and transmitters to monitor and jam threat frequencies. Military jargon later changed “Ravens” to “Crows.” The International Association of Old Crows (AOC) is celebrating its 50th anniversary—and exploring how best to join the elements of electronic warfare and cyber technologies to deal with the elements of modern warfare. April 14, 2015 – NORTHCOM Moving to Counter the EMP Threat!

The Pentagon recently announced that Raytheon will receive a $700 million contract to prep the Cheyenne Mountain base in Colorado for the return of US Aerospace Command, built in the 1960s to respond to a Soviet nuclear strike; this new plan is to help counter a possible EMP attack by a rogue nation. This explicit acknowledgement of the EMP threat is a most welcome development. Hopefully, the U.S. “powers that be” will also take complementary steps to assure the survival of the American people in case of such an attack—and here are some hopeful signs this may be possible.
