December 8, 2015—Maybe a Gray Swan?

December 8, 2015—Maybe a Gray Swan?

Yesterday was the 74th anniversary of the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, a classic “Black Swan” event in that it was unexpected but should have been, as concluded after the fact. Two years ago, I suggested we were courting another “surprise” attack that should be identified now and countered while there may still be time to prevent or defend against it. Two years have passed, the threat has grown and we seem to be beginning to address it—so, a “Gray” Swan? Will we respond in time? Read Full Story

December 1, 2015—Global Warming and the Grid.

December 1, 2015—Global Warming and the Grid.

“Billions of government dollars are being spent to subsidize so-called renewable power, mainly wind and solar . . . intrinsically intermittent, as clouds pass in front of the sun, and the wind comes and goes. In small doses the grid can handle intermittent power, but to accommodate a lot of this power, a new approach is being promoted: the so-called smart grid . . . centralizing control [and increasing] the vulnerability of the grid to terrorist hacking.” Norman Rogers, The American Thinker, November 21, 2015 Read Full Story

November 24, 2015—A Thanksgiving Lesson to Remember.

November 24, 2015—A Thanksgiving Lesson to Remember.

As we pause to give thanks for all our blessings, it is good to remember lessons learned from those who came before us, and to recommit ourselves to keeping this land free and prosperous for those who follow us. Memories give us a context for seeing and meeting our opportunities to leave this land better than we found it — with the help of the Sovereign of the Universe, so may it be . . . Read Full Story

July 21, 2015—An Iran Deal Distraction!

July 21, 2015—An Iran Deal Distraction!

The Deal with Iran is a bad, bad deal—and the debate over its future acceptance will no doubt be very political in the coming weeks. Unfortunately, this debate ignores an existing Iranian capability to attack the United States with nuclear weapons they may rapidly obtain, if they don’t have them already. And this means of attack poses an existential threat to all Americans—just what the Iranian mullahs and their followers say they want when they chant “Death to America.” Beware of an EMP attack from a satellite launched southward from Iran (or North Korea). Wake up America! Read Full Story

July 14, 2015—Pluto: New Horizons, Clementine, Infinity and Beyond!

“There was a time when space-based missile defense was criticized as ‘weaponizing space.’ So, while we sat back and tried to show leadership on this issue, Russia and China weaponized it for us . . . [I]t’s time to get past ideology and develop real defenses, and space-based missile defenses shouldn’t be off-the-table. For less than our current systems, we could deploy a missile defense system in space that’s more capable than what we have in today’s GMD system.” Rep. Mike Rogers (R-AL), Chairman of the House Armed Services Strategic Forces Subcommittee at the July 8th AFA, NDIA and ROA seminar Read Full Story

July 7, 2015 — Remember July 9 Lessons!

July 7, 2015 — Remember July 9 Lessons!

On July 9, 1962 — 53 years ago— the United States detonated a 1.4 megaton nuclear device 240 miles above Johnston Island in the South Pacific. The immediate effects of Starfish Prime were felt 900 miles away in Hawaii and damaged our satellites early our venture into space following the Soviet Union’s 1957 “Sputnik” that shocked America into action. Its consequences prompted a far-reaching response that remained highly classified until only seven years ago. Most Americans remain oblivious to the existential threat to all we hold dear posed by largely ignored lessons learned from that fateful day. Time to wake-up! Read Full Story

June 30, 2015—ISIS Going Global?

June 30, 2015—ISIS Going Global?

Within a three hours period last Friday, jihadis killed about 60 persons and wounded several hundred others in three nation states. Friday’s attacks in France, Tunisia and Kuwait came days after the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group called for such operations during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan (June 17-July 17). Was this “Bloody Friday” an introduction to more such terrorism during the next several weeks? Within what geographic limits? Within the United States? Something to consider for this Fourth of July? June 23, 2015—Better Defenses: Part Way Back to the Future?

June 23, 2015—Better Defenses: Part Way Back to the Future?

America’s current missile defense strategy is “not sustainable,” according to Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Deputy Director USAF Brig. Gen. Kenneth Todorov. As reported by Sydney J. Freedberg in June 18’s Breaking Defense, he correctly emphasized that we can’t keep buying multi-million-dollar interceptors to shoot down adversaries’ ever-growing arsenals of much cheaper offensive missiles; we have to find a better way involving fewer Ground-Based Interceptors (GBIs) and more investment in R&D. June 18, 2015—Volatile New World Disorder!

June 18, 2015—Volatile New World Disorder!

“. . . Years ago, before the East Germans began rebuilding their churches, they erected a secular structure: the television tower at Alexander Platz. Virtually ever since, the authorities have been working to correct what they view as the tower’s one major flaw, treating the glass sphere at the top with paints and chemicals of every kind. Yet even today when the sun strikes that sphere–that sphere that towers over all Berlin—the light makes the sign of the cross. There in Berlin, like the city itself, symbols of love, symbols of worship, cannot be suppressed. . .” ~ President Ronald Reagan at the Brandenburg Gate, June 12, 1987 Read Full Story
