Today is the 35th anniversary of President Ronald Reagan’s Strategic Defense Initiative speech, where he changed the course of our republic’s defense strategy from Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) to the concept that rather than avenge the deaths to Americans, caused by a nuclear ballistic missile attack from the U.S.S.R., at the time the only other nation state with that capability, we should protect American lives through the execution of a ballistic missile defense system – to “provide for the common defense!”
