March 10, 2015 – Hail Columbia!

March 10, 2015 – Hail Columbia!

The March 14th South Carolina National Security Summit will focus on what local and state authorities, first responders and citizens can do to help defeat four existential threats the Federal authorities are failing to counter effectively: Immigration, Global jihad, Natural and manmade threats to our electric grid and The hollowing out of our national defense. Y’all come!

My main purpose today is to inform you about the South Carolina National Security Summit. High Frontier is joining with the Center for Security Policy and Breitbart News to sponsor this important conference in my home state’s capital, Columbia—and to urge you to attend if at all possible.

Hail Columbia!

First, consider that we are having this conference because many of us are frustrated by Washington’s failure to address critically important national security challenges. We believe we need dramatic changes, and for that we need to return to the roots of America’s founding to re-establish love of liberty, independence and taking responsibility at the local level—with “We the People.”

In this context, “Hail Columbia” is particularly appropriate as a title for today’s message about a conference in my home state’s capital. Have you heard of this famous song, at least for generations of early Americans? Click here for a moving 3-minute rendition with lyrics and patriotic revolutionary background artistry.

Did you know that we had no formal national anthem until 1931 when that honor was bestowed on Francis Scott Key’s Star Spangled Banner?  Until then, Hail Columbia was first among several songs serving as the unofficial national anthem when public events warranted one.

Associated was the Lady Liberty, Columbia—which drew her origin from namesake Christopher Columbus.

During the 18th century, Columbia was often used in referring to the “colonies”—before there was a Revolution and a United States. Philip Phile composed Hail Columbia —then titled “The President’s March”—for George Washington’s first inauguration, almost 13 years after the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776.

In another nine years in 1798, it was arranged with the above lyrics by Joseph Hopkinson and afterward used as a de facto national anthem until 1931. Hail Columbia also was the anthem for the President until it was formally replaced by Hail to the Chief in 1954—Click here for the familiar ruffles and flourishes and an excellent rendition.  Hail Columbia is now the official Vice Presidential anthem—also following the usual ruffles and flourishes.

We need again the spirit that filled our founders—who sought freedom from tyranny in their time and were willing to pledge their “lives, fortunes and sacred honor” to achieve it for “We the People.”  May that again be the goal for South Carolinians and our fellow Americans—and may next Saturday’s Summit in Columbia be a benchmark!

Hail Columbia, indeed!

Summit Agenda.

The South Carolina National Security Summit will be held from 9AM until 5PM at Brookland Baptist Banquet and Conference Center, 1066 Sunset Blvd, West Columbia, SC 29169.  Frank Gaffney, Founder and President of the Center for Security Policy will moderate an agenda that will include presentations from a number of national leaders, including:

  • Ambassador John Bolton
  • Senator Ted Cruz
  • Governor Bobby Jindal
  • Senator Rick Santorum

These presentations, which will deal with the broad scope of issues confronting us, will be interspersed among four approximately one hour panel discussions of major problem areas where Washington is failing to provide the means to defend America against existential threats. Currently, these panels are:

  • America’s Military in Decline
    • Admiral Ace Lyons (USN-Ret.)
    • Peter Huessy
    • Bill Conner
    • Danny Strickland (USA Ret.)
  • America’s Electric Power Grid and Threats to Critical Infrastructure
    • Ambassador Henry F. Cooper
    • Peter Pry
    • Dr. George Baker
    • Scott Cooper
  • The Threat from Shariah and the Global Jihad Movement
    • General Jerry Boykin (USA-Ret.)
    • John Guandolo
    • David Bores
    • Rick Joyner
  • Border Insecurity and Illegal Immigration
    • Rosemary Jenks
    • Phyllis Schlafly – Skype/Video
    • Javier Manjarres

Click here for photographs and biographical information on these participants. Each panel will be followed by 15-20 minutes of discussion and questions from the audience.

All these presentations will be very important—and they are in fact interconnected. It will be well worth your time to attend. Check our webpage, www.highfrontier.org periodically for updates.
While the entire conference is most pertinent and deserves your time and attention, I urge you in particular to catch our panel on the current existential threats to all we hold dear that are posed by various manmade and even natural threats to our electric power grid.  See below a couple of key bottom lines—a brief summary of this threat from my colleague Reaganite, Frank Gaffney, and my brief bottom line that South Carolina can help the nation recover in case the grid goes down.  Come and hear at least some of the details!  For pertinent background read our previous email messages, particularly our February 24, 2015 message, “Nuclear Power Reactors: Threat and Solution.”

Closure and a Challenge.

We live in the most dangerous time of my lifetime—and I have spent over half a century focused on national security concerns. I fear for my country and my family and friends. We are collectively failing our children and our grandchildren. This must change.

May we make the difference called for in the far too little sung fourth stanza of our national anthem. Click here to hear a Marine’s magnificent extemporaneous rendition of this beloved but too little remembered stanza—and ponder the words below—then, say your own prayer.

Fourth Stanza of the Star Spangled Banner:

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war’s desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav’n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: “In God is our trust.”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Then join us next Saturday in Columbia at the Brookland Baptist Banquet and Conference Center—especially if you live in South Carolina or nearby. Please click here to learn more and to reserve your tickets!

What else can you do?

Join us in praying for our nation, and for a rebirth of the freedom sought, achieved and passed to us by those who came before us.

Help us to spread our message to the grass roots and to encourage all “powers that be” to provide for the common defense as they are sworn to do.

Begin by passing this message to your friends and suggest they visit our webpage, www.highfrontier.org for more information. Also, please encourage your sphere of influence to sign up for our weekly e-newsletter.

Encourage them to review our past email messages, posted on www.highfrontier.org, to learn about many details related to the existential manmade and natural EMP threats and how we can protect America against them. Yes, we also remain vulnerable to the EMP caused by a major solar storm that will one day surely create this threat condition—and we are not dealing with it either.

I hope you will help us with our urgently needed efforts, which I will be discussing in future messages. Click here to make your tax deductible gift. If you prefer to mail a check, Please send it to 500 North Washington Street, Alexandria, VA 22314
